Texas A&M dismisses two starters
Texas A&M has tossed two of their starters after they were arrested on Tuesday night.
Linebacker Darian Claiborne and defensive linesman Isaiah Golden were both booted after being arrested on three charges each of aggravated robbery.
The police report says: “On May 23, 2014 at approximately 2255 hrs, officers with the College Station Police Department were dispatched to the 2000 blk of Holleman Drive W in regards to a report of an aggravated robbery that had just occurred. Upon arrival officers met with two victims, a 20 year old male and a 22 year old male, and learned that the reported robbery had actually occurred a short distance away at their apartment in the 1100 blk of Jones Butler Road. They further stated that a third victim, a 20 year old male, was at that apartment and that he had been struck in the head during the robbery by one of the suspects. Officers responded to the apartment, located the third victim, and found him to have suffered minor injuries as a result of being struck.”
It gets worse.
“Investigation at the scene found that the three victims had entered into an agreement to purchase a quantity of marijuana from the suspects. When the suspects arrived at the apartment to complete the transaction, one of the suspects produced a handgun, pointed it at one of the victims while the other suspect took the money that was present to purchase the marijuana. While this was occurring, one of the victims stood up from the couch and was struck in the face by the suspect with the handgun. The suspects then fled the area on foot and the victims notified police.”
Rightly, they were booted out from College Station, and are being held on bail of $120,000 each. As someone chatting to us on Twitter pointed out, you don’t get arrested for aggravated robbery for fun.
“These two individuals have failed to meet the high expectations and standards that we have for our football players and as representatives of this university,” Sumlin said in a news release. “These two players have exhibited a pattern of behavior that we will not tolerate at Texas A&M.”
Both players were arrested on February 24th with Golden arrested for a small amount of marijuana, and Claiborne was arrested for a noise violation. Claiborne was arrested in December for possession of marijuana, too.
BOTTOM LINE: Claiborne’s going to be a huge loss for DC Mark Snyder, who had a defense that struggled mightily in 2013 (to be polite). He had 89 tackles for the team for the year. Golden made six starts for the team. However, the two arrests for Claiborne (by the look of it), look a little soft. Mind you, what were the players doing smoking weed in the first place?
